Mountain — Island interior
At 1,611 metres, Mount Saos — also called Fengari, "moon" in Greek — is the highest peak in the Aegean islands, and the third-highest in the wider Aegean after Crete and Evia. In the Iliad, Homer has Poseidon watch the Trojan War from its summit.
The standard route starts from Therma and takes around five hours to the top — steep, rocky, and occasionally overgrown, but a serious hike rather than a stroll. Along the way are waterfalls, forest, and the kind of views that explain why the ancients thought a god would choose this spot.
Not a casual add-on to a day trip — this is a proper hiking day on its own, best planned as the main event rather than one stop among several.
