Canyoning — Island interior
Samothraki's interior holds well over a hundred waterfalls and natural pools fed year-round by springs off Mount Saos, and Hellas Canyon is where local operators run organised canyoning down them — rappelling, natural rock slides, and jumps into clear pools, graded from gentle introductory routes suitable for kids up to full technical descents down waterfalls tens of metres high.
This is guided-activity terrain rather than a self-guided walk: proper canyoning needs harnesses, wetsuits, and someone who knows the routes, so it's worth booking with a local operator rather than attempting it independently.
