Viewpoint — Melia village, inland Evros, ~1 hour from the city
Melia is a village of under 100 permanent residents set among beech and pine forest inland from Alexandroupolis, known locally for a hill of traditional stone windmills just above the settlement — no longer working, but kept up as a viewpoint with benches looking out over the Evros countryside.
The forest around the village carries a network of hiking trails ranging from easy loops to longer routes, largely uncrowded even in summer. The windmill hill is the spot locals point to for sunset, and it's an easy one to see why.
