Museum — City centre
Opened in 2018, the Archaeological Museum of Alexandroupolis is the newest of the city's museums and the most comprehensive on regional history — finds range from the 6th millennium BC through Roman and Byzantine times, mostly excavated from sites right around the city: Maroneia, Mesimvria, and Traianoupolis among them.
Short explanatory texts, maps, and multimedia displays make it approachable even without prior context, which makes it a useful stop before visiting the actual archaeological sites — Ancient Maroneia in particular reads very differently once you've seen where its finds ended up.
It's compact enough to see properly in an hour, and pairs naturally with the Ethnological Museum of Thrace a short walk away for a fuller picture of the region, ancient and traditional.
