Art of Silk Museum, Soufli

Museum — Soufli, ~65km north of the city

Soufli built its wealth on silk, and this museum is where that history is still a live business rather than a relic — it's housed in the 1886 mansion of silk producer George Tsiakiris, whose family has run the Tsiakiris silk mills for 60 years and still owns the museum today.

Exhibits and video walk visitors through the full process, from sericulture — rearing the silkworms — through reeling, yarn processing, and weaving, with the museum shop selling silk goods from the family's own collection alongside other local products.

It's open daily and free to enter, which makes it an easy stop on the way through Soufli rather than something to plan around — pair it with the Silk Museum a short walk away for the fuller picture, one told by a private family mill and the other by a public heritage foundation.
