History Museum of Alexandroupolis

Museum — City centre

The History Museum of Alexandroupolis was set up by the Society of the Friends of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage of Evros, a local association founded in 1982 to preserve the region's more recent history — the era the archaeological and ethnological museums don't cover in depth.

The collection is smaller and more personal than the city's other museums: photographs, documents, and everyday objects tracing Alexandroupolis's transformation from the Ottoman port town of Dedeagach into a modern Greek city over the 20th century.

It's a quick visit rather than a half-day plan, but a good one for understanding how young this city actually is in its current form — barely a century since the name and the borders changed.
