Museum — Orestiada, ~110km north of the city
Orestiada is Greece's newest and northernmost city, built in 1923 to resettle Greek refugees from Karaağaç, a district of Adrianoupolis (modern Edirne, just across the border) ceded to Turkey after the population exchange. The Historical and Folklore Museum tells that founding story directly, through hundreds of exhibits — traditional costume, hand-woven textiles, and photographs brought by the families who built the city from nothing a century ago.
It's a useful stop for understanding just how recent and deliberate this whole stretch of Thrace's town-building was — Orestiada, like Alexandroupolis itself, is a city defined by displacement and resettlement rather than ancient continuity.
Orestiada is the furthest point on this list from the coast — realistically a stop on a longer loop through Soufli and Didymoteicho rather than a trip on its own.
